Research Areas & Initiatives

The Life Sciences Division is working to increase the number of faculty in the life sciences from roughly 72 faculty in FY04 to approximately 100 in 2010, with an emphasis on juniors, women, and diversity in the following areas:

• Neuroscience (CBS)
• Systems Biology
• Chemistry & Chemical Biology
• Computational biology
• Bioengineering & Physical Biology
• Plant Sciences
• Evolution and Development
• Ecology/Neuroethology & Ecology

The division is also working to enhance research and curricular infrastructure, including:

• Teaching labs
• Mass Spectroscopy
• fMRI facility
• Imaging Facility
• Mammalian genetic manipulation facility (MGMF)
• IT infrastructure to support research in the life sciences
